Natural Light

Natural light pictures are taken by only using light from Nature (the sun). So no flashes or mirrors are used, although there was a blue colour cast from the lighting, it was easy to remove. This lighting, I found, is actually very flattering to the subject, it is very soft.

What we Learned Last Week

Last week we learned abouut pixilation (or stop motion animation). It is a type of video that consists of multiple pictures being shown for a short amount of time to create the illusion of movement. The amound of pictures used and the time that they are shown will determine how smooth the movement is. Claymation is an example of this type of animation.

Abandoned Houses

This is a picture that I took of a flower infront of an old door

This is a picture of an old barn roof

This is my favourite picture

Three Point Lighting

Three point lighting is when there is a main light, a back light and a fill light. This creates very flattering lighting for the subject where are no particularly harsh shadows, hiding parts of the subject. It is good for portraits and creates a studio effect.

Studio Lighting

These are some pictures that we took with studio lighting. By moving the light around the studio, you can creat different effects.

This is a silhouette, caused by putting the light source behind the subject.

This was taken while the lighinng was at a 45 degree and the subject is directly infront of the background, casting a shadow on the background.

This is another shot with direct lighting (lighting at a 45 degree angle), but no shadow appears to be cast because the subject is away from the background.

This is a picture taken while the lighting is coming from the side of the subject, casting shadows on the subjects face.

Shape and Form, Line, and Texture

Shape is when the subject in a photograph has height and width, but no depth. Also the details of the subject are not present.

Form is the illusion of depth created by shadows in an image.

Line can be used for many purposes in an image. A vertical line suggests height and movement, while a horizontal line can suggest symmetry by cuttign the frame in two. A slanting line conveys motion through the frame, while an "S" shaped line will convey depth.

This is an example of line.

Texture can support a subject or be a subject in itself. It causes the viewer to connect to the image through memories. The viewer can feel it by seeing it.
